Fiorentina moved two points clear of Inter Milan at the top of the Italian Serie A from a 3-0 win over 10-man Atalanta late Sunday, after the Nerazzurri drew 1-1 at Sampdoria.
Josip Ilicic converted from the spot in the sixth minute after Atalanta defender Gabriel Paletta was dismissed for flooring the goal-bound Jakub Blaszczykowski, Borja Valero shook the post before scoring on 34 with a surgical flick off Federico Bernardeschi’s assist and substitute Joan Verdu volleyed home in the 90th minute.
La Viola lead on 18 points from seven games, with Inter on 16 and Lazio advancing to third on 15 as Keita Balde and Filip Djordjevic scored second-half goals for a 2-0 win at home to newcomers Frosinone.
In Genoa, Samp fans watched Joaquin Correa fail to score in front of a gaping goal and Luis Muriel miss a header after the break, before scoring with a deflection from close range off Pedro Pereira on 51 minutes.
Inter levelled from Ivan Perisic’s flick in the 75th minute after the Samp defence managed to block two efforts from Mauro Icardi.
“Certainly we could have done more,” Inter defender Davide Santon said. “We tried to get the three points. After the goal they stayed in their midfield but still we managed to score. It was an important point on a difficult pitch.”
A late classic game saw Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne score a brace to sink AC Milan 4-0, which pushed the Naples side to sixth place on 12 points.
Brazilian Allan on 13 minutes flicked in from the right side off Insigne, who in the 48th scored in similar fashion off Gonzalo Higuain before curling home a free-kick. Rodrigo Ely then worsened matters with an own goal.
Fourth place is occupied by Roma (14) with a 4-2 win at Palermo including a brace from Gervinho.
First-half goals by Miralem Pjanic, Alessandro Florenzi and Gervinho seemed to have secured an easy win for the Rome Giallorossi, but the Sicily hosts played an aggressive second half and were on target with substitute Alberto Gilardino and Giancarlo Gonzalez before Gervinho’s late second goal.
Beleaguered champions Juventus rallied to beat tail-enders Bologna 3-1 and move into 12th place on eight points.
A fifth-minute volley from Bologna forward Anthony Mounier silenced the Juventus Stadium, but Alvaro Morata on 33 minutes headed home a deflected cross from Sami Khedira and missed a glaring chance before being fouled by Alex Ferrari for a penalty that Paulo Dybala converted on 52.
Eleven minutes later, Morata paid back Khedira with a cross that the German nodded into the far corner.
Elsewhere, Udinese veteran Antonio Di Natale scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 home draw with Genoa, who levelled with a spot kick from Diego Perotti.
Another veteran, Empoli’s Massimo Maccarone, nodded home a late winner in a 1-0 victory over Sassuolo, who were the only side still unbeaten before the encounter.
They stay on 12 points alongside Napoli and Chievo, who drew 1-1 with Verona on Saturday.
Empoli, with coach Marco Giampaolo and forward Riccardo Saponara suspended, dominated the first half but saw Bosnian Rade Krunic and 36-year-old forward Maccarone miss their few chances. Sassuolo played far below their best and failed to improve after the break.
Empoli moved onto seven points, two above newcomers Carpi, who clinched a first win Saturday by edging fifth-place Torino (13) by 2-1.
