Ambala-Dappar railway track: Commissioning of double lane to hit 99 trains today, no rail traffic for 8 hours

The trains that have been cancelled include Shatabdi Express (12011 and 12012), Jan Shatabdi and Himalayan Queen. According to the officials, 30 trains have been diverted while nine trains have been rescheduled for Monday; 11 trains on the railway line have also been regulated due to the commissioning.

Because of the work on the track, journey between Chandigarh and New Delhi by Kalka-Shatabdi Express is taking about four hours daily. The railway officials say that from October 6, the train timings will improve.

The work for the double laning of Ambala-Chandigarh railway track is to be completed in two phases, Ambala- Dappar and Dappar-Chandigarh phase. “The first phase (Ambala-Dappar) will be operational from Monday evening. The second phase of the project, Dappar-Chandigarh, will be completed next year,” said Dinesh Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala.

“The situation will be back to normal by tomorrow night,” he added.

“After the commissioning of double lane from Monday evening, it would facilitate faster movement of trains,” said Karan Singh, Senior Divisional Manager (Operations) Ambala Division.

Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railways, Neeraj Sharma said that during the eight-hour closure, other departments, including electrical and transmission, would also carry out maintenance work on the track.
