TN Bar council begins disciplinary hearing against 14 suspended lawyers
CHENNAI: The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry commenced disciplinary proceedings against 14 advocates who were suspended from practice by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
A two-member committee formed by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry started the trial on the council premises here on Sunday. Further hearing will continue on October 11.
On September 22, in an unprecedented direct action, the BCI suspended 14 lawyers and ordered that their disciplinary proceeding be held in Bengaluru.

However, while declining to reduce the sentence, the BCI modified its order a bit and permitted the state Bar council to conduct its own trial in Chennai.
The lawyers were suspended from practising before any court for their suspected involvement in an anti-helmet rally in Madurai last month.
