THE defence lawyers of the 12 convicts, five of whom were sentenced to death and 12 to life imprisonment for the 2006 serial blasts on Mumbai local trains, met All Indian Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi Saturday, seeking support and stressing that all the men were innocent and had been framed.
Leading the team was advocate Wahab Khan who said the meeting lasted for at least two hours.
“We discussed with Owaisi the minute details of the case. He said that his party will stand by the legal team,” Khan told The Indian Express.

Khan said the party has assured that it would raise the issue, whenever required. “Apart from the legal fight, which is our right, we will also appraise the facts of this case to higher authorities, showing how these innocent men have been framed,” he said.
Nine years after the July 11 blasts that left 189 dead and hundreds injured, five persons were sentenced to death and seven others were given life terms by a special MCOCA court Wednesday. On September 11, the court had convicted 12 of the 13 accused. The prosecution had demanded death penalty for eight of the 12.
Capital punishment was awarded to Kamal Ansari (41) from Madhubani, Bihar; Mohammad Faisal Ataur Rahman Shaikh (41) from Mumbai; Ehtesham Qutubuddin Siddiqui (34) from Thane; Naveed Hussain Khan (35) from Secunderabad and Asif Khan (44) from Jalgaon in Maharashtra. All of them were found guilty of planting the bombs.
