Nationals think it’s a joke: Bryce Harper ‘choked’ by Max Scherzer

That bit of teammate-on-teammate violence that served as a humiliating post-mortem for the Washington Nationals‘ season, put the big-money closer in tenuous exile and all but guaranteed the manager’s firing?

It’s good for reference humor!

Bryce Harper and ace righty Max Scherzer jokingly choked each other in the Nationals’ dugout before Thursday night’s play-out-the-string game against the Braves, evoking last Sunday’s ugly incident in which Jonathan Papelbon attempted to throttle Harper — the bristly closer suggested — for not hustling out a fly ball.

To be fair, the gesture (ironically) was part of Harper and Scherzer’s pre-game shake before the Papelbon brawl — now it just looks insensitive to the demise of the one-time National League favorites.
