Model scores 50,000 signatures on petition against 'dangerously skinny' models

Nelson is campaigning for a law which would make it compulsory for models to get regular health checks, to "guarantee models are healthy and happy".

Speaking to Buzzfeed News, Nelson said that she wants the law to apply to all models but "especially to the models at Fashion Week, who are walking for the biggest brands in front of the biggest audience".

The Australian model and health advocate began the campaign after being told that she needed to lose weight. The 23-year-old is a size 8-10.

She says that the weight desired by the agency in question would result in "damaging my body and starving myself".

Tory MP Caroline Nokes has separately launched an enquiry into "unhealthily thin" models and their use on British catwalks, Buzzfeed reported.

"I think firstly we want to heighten awareness, we want to stimulate debate, and in an ideal world the industry would respond to the strength of public opinion".
