Major auto companies report domestic sales

New Delhi :India Yamaha Motor today reported a 13.38 per cent increase in domestic sales in September at 67,267 units, as against 59,325 units sold in the same month last year.

Exports during the month stood at 15,612 units, as against 12,076 units in the same month last year, up 29 per cent, the company said in a statement.

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd Vice-president Sales & Marketing Roy Kurian said: “Ahead of the festive season, we are confident that our recent launches and innovative customer connect programs will garner major sales for us and we will be able to post some record numbers in the coming months.”

Honda Cars India today reported a 23 per cent increase in its domestic sales at 18,509 units in September.

It had sold 15,015 units in September last year, Honda Cars India (HCIL) said in a statement.

Last month, the company sold 759 units of small car Brio, 4,762 units of hatchback Jazz, 6,577 units of compact sedan Amaze, 643 units of MPV Mobilio and 5,702 units of the mid-sized sedan City.

Besides, the company sold 66 units of sports utility vehicle CRV. In addition, it exported a total of 782 units during the month.

Hero MotoCorp

Country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp today reported a marginal increase in the sales at 6,06,744 units in September.

The company had sold 6,04,052 units in the same month last year, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.

“Hero MotoCorp has consolidated its share in the domestic motorcycle market to 52 per cent and in the 125 cc segment to around 50 per cent,” it added.

Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra today reported 5 per cent decline in the total sales at 42,848 vehicles in September.

It had sold 44,911 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a statement.

In the domestic market, its sales were down by 6 per cent to 39,693 units last month as against 42,408 units in September last year.

Exports were up 26 per cent at 3,155 vehicles as against 2,503 units in the same period a year ago.

Sales of passenger vehicles, including Scorpio, XUV 500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, stood at 19,564 units as compared to 21,141 units in September 2014, down by 7 per cent.

Commercial vehicle sales were down by 5 per cent to 14,430 units last month against 15,171 units in the year-ago period, M&M said.

“While the auto industry has witnessed a slow and fragmented recovery, the recent interest rate reduction by the RBI is bound to infuse optimism,” M&M Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Pravin Shah said.

If the majority of the rate cut is passed on to the customers by the lending institutions, it will bring back the momentum in auto sales especially in the upcoming festival season, he added.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) today reported a 9.83 per cent increase in total sales at 56,535 units in September.

The company had sold 51,471 units in the same month last year, HMIL said in a statement.

In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 42,505 units last month as compared with 35,041 units in September 2014, up 21.3 per cent.

The company’s exports were, however, down 14.6 per cent to 14,030 units as against 16,430 units in the same month last year.

HMIL Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) Rakesh Srivastava said: “Hyundai grew by 21.3 per cent with its highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 42,505 units in a single month in its last 17 years on the strong performance of its modern premium brands like CRETA, Elite i20, i20 Active and Grand.”

Maruti

Maruti Suzuki India, country’s largest carmaker, today reported 3.7 per cent rise in total sales in September at 1,13,759 units as against 1,09,742 units sold in the same month last year.

Domestic sales increased by 6.8 per cent during the month to 1,06,083 units as against 99,290 units in September, 2014, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, increased marginally to 35,570 units as compared to 35,547 units in the year-ago month.

The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz and Dzire increased by 3.5 per cent to 44,826 units in September this year as against 43,304 units last year.

MSI said sales of its compact sedan Dzire Tour surged over two-fold during the month under review at 3,229 units as against 1,221 units in September, 2014.

The sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz, which was launched in October, 2014, stood at 4,291 units.

The company had sold 1,375 units of SX4 sedan in September, 2014.

There was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month.

The company said it sold 3,600 units of its newly launched premium crossover S-Cross during the last month.

Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, rose by 5.9 per cent at 6,331 units in September this year from 5,980 units in the corresponding month last year.

Sales of vans—Omni and Eeco—declined marginally to 11,836 units in September this year as compared to 11,863 units in the same period of previous year.

Exports during the month declined by 26.6 per cent to 7,676 units as compared to 10,452 units in September last year, MSI said, adding that overseas shipment of around 3,500 units was delayed last month.
