I enjoy playing cool dads: Sijoy Varghese
After playing a couple of stylish roles including the dashing race coach Zacharia in Bangalore Days, ad man-turned-actor Sijoy Varghese seems to be busy signing some ‘daddy-cool’ characters.
The actor, who recently enacted Kunchacko Boban’s daredevil dad in Jamna Pyari, will soon be seen as Esther Anil’s father in director PK Baburaj’s film Gemini.
He enacts Dr Vijay Varma, a loving father who is quite concerned about his daughter Gemini.
“It’s a character quite like me in real life. Esther told me that so far in her career, her onscreen dads have always been actors who have grown-up children in real life. I’m the first to have children of her age in real life too (laughs) and thus she felt like being with her own dad! The role is quite challenging as it’s not just about attitude and style, but about portraying many tender moods and emotions right as well,” says Sijoy. Bengali actress Tanusree Ghosh is cast as his wife in the film.
Why pick dad roles? “The fathers I play are not mere namesake characters in the films. Vasu of Jamna Pyari is shown as a nine-year-old’s brave-heart father, who dies attempting to save lives. Similarly Gemini’s dad also plays a vital role in the film’s story. I enjoy doing such cool dad roles,” explains Sijoy.
Alongside Gemini, the actor is also busy with the Tamil version of Bangalore Days, in which he shares screen with the likes of Arya, Rana Daggubati and Parvathy. He is also part of the upcoming Kollywood movie Munnodi, Joshiy’s Fahadh Faasil film Single, Uday Ananthan’s White and Prithviraj-starrer James and Alice.
