Georgetown over Amesbury — The Globe said goodbye to a great one this week with the retirement of 30-year-plus copy editor and mega-Georgetown fan Pete Goodwin. The good news? Now that he’s off weekends, he can watch the Royals get their first win of the year.

Boston Latin over Bedford — And while on the subject of journalism greats, same holds for Latin grad John Powers, who left the Globe after 42 years on the job. Ben Franklin may be Latin’s most famous alum, but Powers’s amazing recall of high school sports history puts him first on my list.
Ipswich over Lynnfield — Congrats to Ipswich coach Kevin Fessette on the arrival of his first child the day before last week’s big win. Myla is 1-0 as the Tigers’ newest fan. Now she wants dad to bring home the upset of the year.
