CID conducts mahazar at Ramachandrapura Mutt

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday conducted the mahazar at the Girinagar branch of the Ramachandrapura Mutt in the City, in connection with the second rape case registered against Raghaveshwara Bharathi seer.

The CID officials, along with the victim, and the representatives of Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane, visited the Mutt premises and the mahazar procedure went on for five hours.
A 25-year-old a freelance artiste had filed a complaint with the Girinagar police stating that the seer had raped her twice. According to the complaint, the victim was first raped in 2006 when she was a Class 10 student, at Hosanagara in Shivamogga district, the Mutt’s headquarters. She was again raped in 2012 when she had come to the Mutt’s branch in Girinagar in Bengaluru, where the seer was observing ‘Chaturmasya’.

The CID conducted the mahazar on the first floor of the Mutt building where the victim claimed the rape had taken place in 2012. The CID team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharanesh conducted the mahazar and took the signatures of five staff of the Mutt. Last week, the CID had conducted the mahazar at Hosanagara, the headquarters of the Mutt.
