Kevin Nicholson: Torquay United boss waits to appoint assistant

Torquay United player-manager Kevin Nicholson says he will not have a number two appointed before Saturday's game with Aldershot.

In the interim, goalkeeping coach Kenny Veysey will assist Nicholson.

"We've got Kenny and if I have picked myself we'll have to have a little look and see if Kenny wants any back-up or not," Nicholson told BBC Sport.

"We'll sit down and talk that through, talk about plan A, plan B and what's going to happen if we're winning or losing.

"If I am playing I'll have to get somebody on the opposite side of the pitch if I need to get message across, but these are little things that we'll play with as the season goes on.

"But there's no major rush, we're pretty good where we are at the moment."

Nicholson said he has a number of people in mind to come in and help him in his first job as a manager.

"It won't be easy finding an assistant because I can't throw money at them. I can't give them things that you normally would.

"But it's an opportunity for somebody and the list is taking shape and I will talk to people in due course.

"I want them to be honest, I want them to have their opinion and I want someone who's going to stand up to me if he thinks that I'm wrong," added the left-back, who previously spent seven years as a player at Plainmoor between 2007 and 2014.

"I want somebody that knows the game, because if they see something when they're on the bench and I'm playing that they think really needs changing quickly, then they've got to have confidence in themselves, and I've got to have confidence in them, that they can reach out and change that."
