The Congress has decided to adopt the family of Haneefa, the party worker who was murdered at Chavakkad last month.

In the presence of Congress leaders and workers, KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran handed over documents of Rs.70 lakh to Haneefa’ mother and wife at their house at Thiruvathra on Wednesday.

Of the Rs.70 lakh, the KPCC and the DCC have contributed Rs.60 lakh and Rs.10 lakh each.

While Haneefa’s wife Shafna and mother Ishabi were given Rs.10 lakh each, his four daughters were given 12.5 lakh each. The children will get the money along with its interest when they become mature.

“The Congress workers have the responsibility to ensure security of the family members of Haneefa. The Congress party will ensure full protection to the family,” Mr. Sudheeran said.

Haneefa was stabbed to death at his house, allegedly by Congress workers, on August 7.
