KARACHI: Second seeds Aisamul Haq Qureshi and Łukasz Kubot crashed out of the Shenzhen Open after losing their first-round men’s doubles encounter 2-1 to Matthew Ebden and Jiri Veselý in China on Wednesday.

The partnership of the Pakistan-Poland pair received the first hit when they conceded the opening set 6-3 to the Australia-Czech pairing. However, they redeemed themselves in the second set 6-4 to draw level and push the match to the tie-breaker.

However, Ebden and Vesely fought back to win the third set 10-8 and progress to the next round.

The Shenzhen Open is an ATP 250 event, featuring 16 doubles teams in the first round.

This was Aisam’s second tournament after the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group II final tie against Chinese Taipei, where he won a doubles and singles rubber for Pakistan. AFP
