City have done all of the pressing since half-time, but their defensive frailties are almost exposed once more as Hahn receives possession on the left and his fierce drive is deflected over.

Sterling is not usually much of an aerial threat, but he steals a run on Fabian Johnson at the back post and heads Navas' delivery over the bar. Gladbach have made a final change as they seek to hold onto an encouraging point, defensive midfielder Nordtveit coming on for the impressive Dahoud.

Aguero is still persevering for City and only a fine piece of defending prevents him from connecting with Navas' cross. The Argentine then shoots wide after Gladbach replace Korb with Ibrahima Traore.

PSV have made things interesting in Moscow thanks to an eight-minute brace from Belgian winger Maxime Lestienne. Elsewhere, Benfica now lead Atletico after 18-year-old Goncalo Cuedes beats Jan Oblak.

Great feet from Draxler to beat his marker and provide a low cross for Bendtner. The former Arsenal man's effort is weak, but Dante sends the ball goalbound only for Rooney to make a timely block.

Nearly an instant impact from Schurrle as he shoots low through the legs of Blind and wide. City pushing hard for a winner now, with Aguero and Sterling forcing the issue before De Bruyne fires over.

Gladbach have thrown on Andre Hahn for Herrmann in a bid to stem the visitors' increasing momentum.

A double substitution for Wolfsburg and it's two former Premier League players who take the field as Schurrle and Nicklas Bendtner replace Arnold and striker Bas Dost.

Phil Jones has also been introduced at the expense of Schweinsteiger, with Daley Blind moving into a midfield role.

Otamendi has saved us a great deal of controversy and complaints over a lack of goal-line technology in the Champions League as that first shot from Demichelis certainly looked to have crossed the line before it was cleared.

City's defending has been nothing short of woeful tonight and they are finally made to pay the price as Julian Korb races down the right before teeing up Stindl, who keeps his composure to slot a low effort past Hart at the near post. Fully deserved.

A goal in each feature game as United lead for the first time tonight and Hart is finally beaten in Gladbach.

At Old Trafford, United apply the pressure as Naldo's clearance from a cross is kept alive by Schweinsteiger. Mata then provides a moment of pure inspiration with a lofted, back heel flick and Smalling is there to finish on the slide. Marvellous from the Spaniard.

United are turning the screw at Old Trafford, but Martial cannot make enough contact on a header to trouble Benaglio. Meanwhile, Fernandinho makes a good block for City but Silva is wasteful on the counter attack.

It's Hart to the rescue for City once again in the early stages of the second half as he produces yet another flying save to deny Raffael, who will be wondering just how he has not manage to score so far tonight.

Valencia was certainly caught sleeping for Wolfsburg's opener, although it remains to be seen if that change is purely tactical or if the player has sustained an injury of some sort.

Toure, meanwhile, was substituted against Tottenham with hamstring trouble. Although he trained yesterday and was deemed fit enough to start, you wonder if he has suffered a setback.

A change apiece for the two Manchester clubs at the break, as Ashley Young replaces Valencia and Pellegrini sends on Fernando for Toure.

Yellow cards are awarded to both of United's midfield duo as Morgan Schneiderlin is cautioned for a foul on Draxler and Schweinsteiger, despite his considerable protestations, enters the referee's notebook for a late tackle that brings down Arnold.

Real controversy now at Borussia-Park as City survive another penalty shout after Fernandinho goes to ground in an attempt to dispossess Lars Stindl.

After a consultation with his assistant behind the goal, referee Turpin books the German midfielder for simulation. Not sure that is the correct decision at all.

If City achieve a result tonight, then Manuel Pellegrini will be indebted to the performance of Hart. The England goalkeeper, kept on the bench for the defeat to Tottenham, produces two wonderful saves to deny Raffael with his defence all at sea.

Van Gaal's side finally draw level with ten minutes of the first half remaining. Goalscorer Caligiuri blocks Mata's cross with his hand and the Spaniard steps up ahead of Rooney to fire his penalty beyond Benaglio, who was sent the wrong way.

Another chance for United to equalise is spurned as Mata finds Memphis Depay with the cross but his somewhat tame header is saved by Benaglio. In Gladbach, Aguero has gone close once again with a shot across goal that just failed to hit the target.

Concerns regarding Wayne Rooney's lack of consistency in front of goal have been raised yet again already this term and with finishing like that you can certainly see why. After the ball is swept out to Martial on the right flank, he easily beats Ricardo Rodriguez before passing to an unmarked Rooney arriving at the back of the penalty area.

A simple sidefoot is all that is required, but the United captain's contact is too heavy and he watches in embarrassment as his effort goes soaring over the crossbar.

To update you regarding events elsewhere, CSKA Moscow are currently 2-0 up at home to PSV Eindhoven courtesy of goals from Ahmed Musa and Seydou Doumbia.

PSG also boast a two-goal lead away to Shakhtar thanks to defenders Serge Aurier and David Luiz, while Atletico have taken the lead against Benfica through 20-year-old Angel Correa. Jackson Martinez has also hit the post at the Vicente Calderon.

City swiftly turn defence into attack as Hart finds Aguero, who races through on goal before pulling his effort wide. More frustration for the usually prolific striker.

United supporters are already used to seeing great things from £36m summer signing Anthony Martial and the confident French teenager weaves his way through the Wolfsburg defence with real guile before shooting wide.

Heroic defending from Dante to deny Manchester United an equaliser. Matteo Darmian's searching cross finds Juan Mata at the back post and he curls a terrific shot aimed at the top right-hand corner of Diego Benaglio's net.

It looks like it will reach its intended target, only for the former Bayern Munich centre-back to divert the ball over the top.

It's certainly an open, attacking game in Germany. After De Bruyne horribly miscues a shot attempt, Gladbach break with pace with only two City players back to defend. Raffael then tees up Patrick Herrmann, but the latter's shot rolls agonisingly wide.

In the day's early kick-off, FC Astana claimed their first ever Champions League point as a late own goal from Galatasaray defender Lionel Carole secured a 2-2 draw in the Kazakhstani capital.

Gladbach, meanwhile, have endured a difficult start to the 2015/16 season. Lucien Favre resigned as manager 10 days ago with the club sitting rock bottom of the Bundesliga following three consecutive losses against Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Cologne, while their Champions League group stage debut away to Sevilla saw them give away three second-half penalties en route to a dismal 3-0 defeat.

Their fortunes have begun to turn this week, though, with a 4-2 home win over Augsburg quickly followed by another triumph away to Stuttgart. Caretaker boss Andre Schubert has brought in Alvaro Dominguez for Havard Nordtveit.

Wolfsburg currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga following a 1-1 draw with Hannover last time out, but the defensive frailties displayed by Dieter Hecking's side during a 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich - a match in which Robert Lewandowski scored five times in just nine second-half minutes in a quite incredible display of potency - will give Louis van Gaal hope.

Hecking has also made one alteration tonight, with former Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle only fit enough for the bench due to a knee problem. 21-year-old German international Maximilian Arnold takes his place.

As for City, who have now suffered three defeats in their last four matches courtesy of a 4-1 humbling at Tottenham at the weekend, captain Vincent Kompany remains sidelined with a calf injury.
