PUTRAJAYA: Four opposition parties and 22 NGOs have handed over a memorandum to the Health Ministry, urging the government to address the concerns of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's family regarding his health.

The memorandum was handed to the ministry's Corporate Communications Unit head Habsah Mohd Dusa and Administration Services Division secretary Tengku Azamiyah Tengku Abd Majid, who received it on behalf of Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

Among other things, the memorandum seeks for Anwar to be given immediate treatment overseas, adding that his medical condition was not being satisfactorily addressed in the country.

According to the memorandum, Anwar has lost weight, inconsistent blood pressure and suffers from gastric.
The memorandum also alleges that doctors tasked with treating Anwar, have delayed in giving him the required treatment.

They also demanded that the head of the medical specialist panel Datuk Dr S. Jeyaindran should be removed and that Anwar should be allowed to pick his own medical consultant and seek a second medical opinion on his condition.

Otai Reformis 1998 leader Ronnie Liu said they hoped to get a positive response from the ministry within the next five working days, failing which they will take further action.

“If they fail to respond, we will go to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) and the ‘Majlis Raja-Raja' (Conference of Rulers).

“We may also bring this up to the five permanent states in the United Nations, the United States, United Kingdom, China, France and Russia,” he added.
