MANDELA PARK. – Moletsane Macdonald Motaung (38) who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Veronica Papadi Mongole (31), is expected to reappear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (1/10) for a formal bail application.
It is alleged that on Monday, 21 September, at about 07:30, Motaung shot Mongole in the head in their house in the Mandela Park section near Phuthaditjhaba, Qwaqwa.
Motaung and Mongole were both employed by an insurance company in Phuthaditjhaba, Qwaqwa.
Sgt Mmako Mophiring, the police spokesperson, said it is alleged that the suspect had an argument with his girlfriend who was allegedly having an affair with another man.
It is also alleged that she refused to give back his car.
“He shot her and fled the scene with the car.
“It seems that he threw the firearm out of the car window and proceeded to the Reitz roadcrossing.
“Here he was arrested by members of the Reitz police after he pretended to be one of the employees working on the construction of the road,” he said.
According to Pontsho Paleli, the mother of the deceased, the couple had separated two weeks before the incident.
She said they knew Motaung as a boyfriend to her daughter for a long time.
“He was very abusive.
“I once told my daughter to dump him because of his abusive behaviour.
“He was beating her and even threatened to kill her at one stage,” she said.
Paleli said she last saw her first-born daughter, Papadi, on Sunday, 20 September, when she came home to show them her new car.
“She left later that day with the two kids.
“On Monday, 21 September, I received a phone call from one of the children telling me that Motaung was beating Papadi.
“I requested my husband to go there and he took a taxi.
“When he got there, Motaung drove off, claiming that he was taking the children to school and promised to come back.
“My husband knocked at the door, but Papadi was not responding.
“He ended up breaking the door to gain access and when he got there she was already dead,” Paleli said.
Mongoli will be laid to rest on Saturday (03/10), at Mandela Park
