With Gurgaon CP Navdeep Singh Virk facing the allegation of coercing JCP (Traffic) Bharti Arora into falsely implicating a suspect in a case she is probing, another person from Karnal has levelled similar charges.

Vishal Gupta, editor-in-chief of a weekly business magazine, alleged, "A woman had come to my office seeking a job. But she levelled baseless rape charge against me during the interview. Virk who is also from Karnal forced the then Karnal SP Shashank Anand to register an FIR against me on September 20, 2013 in Civil Lines Police Station. I served four months' jail term."

'Extortion threat'

"I was continuously threatened to pay extortion money which I refused. I moved applications to the Haryana DGP, chief minister, human rights commission, prime minister and president of India 20 days before Karnal cops registered an FIR," he said.

The human rights panel took cognisance of the case and carried out an inquiry wherein it found many loopholes.

"Karnal police had no answer to a court question that why a person would write letters to higher authorities 20 days before lodging of an FIR. The court acquitted me due to lack of evidence," he said.

Meanwhile, the Gurgaon rape victim has accused Bharti of intimidating her witnesses.

She told Mail Today that one Ajay Bhardwaj was introduced to her as a divorcee. "But I learnt in 2013 that he had not divorced his wife," she said. The complainant said that she gave birth to twins but Bhardwaj later claimed he is not their biological father. She added the family used its political clout to block all proceedings.

She said that the family got the case marked to the officer of their choice Arora, who started threatening witnesses.

When asked about Arora's allegations of her having an affair with Virk, the complainant said that the former is a frustrated woman.

Meanwhile, Haryana DGP Yashpal Singhal on Tuesday said, "I have received communication from both Virk and Arora that I am examining. We will find the truth and act as per law."

It now appears that official bungalow rent dues could be a reason behind the Virk-Arora hostility. Incidentally, Virk had written to the DGP for recovering dues from those occupying the government quarters. Arora owes Rs 6.5 lakh for occupying a bungalow.

CBI probe

On Tuesday, Arora clarified: "Barring the Ajay Bhardwaj case, I have no other dispute with Gurgaon CP." She added: "Let the case be investigated by CBI. I was not wrong in investigating this case."

Meanwhile, Virk said the FIR on July 26, 2014 and Bhardwaj's arrest on July 28, 2014 had happened before he joined as CP on November 23, 2014.
