Director Indrajit Lankesh appears to have the showman in him. Managing a large starcast can be quite a tedious job but not for him. His latest directorial release, ‘Luv U Alia’, is proof of his ability to not only manage a large starcast but also ensure that every one of them has clearly delineated roles that make them stand apart.

‘Luv U Alia’ was also an experiment at making a multilingual film with a twist. "It has been received well and the movie seems to have got a lot of people to look at things from a different perspective,” says Indrajit.

He points out that he has dealt with sensitive issues such as divorce and marital conflicts in the movie in one go. “The movie deals with the issues that everybody can relate to and has been narrated in a very bold and mature manner. It delves into the complications that people in love have to go through, it also touches upon the parent-child relationships and has a lot of points that youngsters can instantly connect with,” explains Indrajit.

He says that he noticed a lot of couples across the country face problems in their married life. “Most married couples who are working don’t seem to have enough time  for each other. This is where the problem starts. This issue has been presented in a very entertaining format in the movie,” he states.

His first challenge was to get veteran actor V Ravichandran to play a gynecologist. “People always associate Ravichandran with ‘Premaloka’. The challenge was to present the character of Ravichandran without a song,” he says. He also says that the makeup for the actor had to be done in a subtle manner. Even actress Bhumika Chawla, states Indrajit, was projected in a different light. “The idea is to capture and portray even the smallest of emotions in an interesting way,” he adds.

Indrajit’s next film is based on the life of actress Shakeela. “A lot of people looked surprised when I told them that I was working on movie based on Shakeela. And I must clarify, that it’s not another dirty picture. It traces the life of a woman who has not had such a rosy ride to stardom,” he adds. He hopes to project a side of Shakeela that not many people know.
