Woman smashes auto after driver molests her in Mumbai

MUMBAI: A tribal woman was allegedly eve-teased and molested by an auto rickshaw driver outside the Palghar railway station on Tuesday evening.
The woman identified as Varsha Katela damaged the six-seater auto rickshaw. The driver fled from the spot.
A video of the woman, along with three other male on-lookers damaging the vehicle went viral minutes after the incident took place at around 5pm.

The video shows the woman smashing the front glass window of the auto. The men are also seen throwing stones at the vehicle and damaging the doors of the auto.A police man intervenes and takes away the woman and the men to the police station.

The Palghar police has registered a case of molestation against the auto rickshaw driver. Further investigation is on.

Allegations of auto drivers eve-teasing and passing remarks at women and young girls in Palghar was on the rise. Early this month, auto drivers were reportedly directed to wear their uniform and badge while driving the vehicle. The auto rickshaw union had protested the move and had even kept the autos off the road on September 2.
