WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States has put the Islamic State branch in Caucasus as well as its leading commander on US list of specially designated global terrorists, the US State and Treasury Departments announced in press releases on Tuesday.
“The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant — Caucasus Province (ISIL-CP) became ISIL’s newest regional group on June 23, 2015 when the spokesman for ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi released an audio recording accepting the sworn allegiance of the fighters of four Caucasus regions – Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, and Kabardino-Balkaria,” the release said on Tuesday.
The US agencies also added to its global terrorist list Rustam Aselderov, the current leader of ISIL-CP, Tarkhan Ismailovich Gaziyev, the leader of ISIL-related group and North Caucasian foreign terrorist fighter, and Shamil Izmaylov, a Russian foreign terrorist currently fighting in Syria.
