NEW DELHI: A 6.5-feet cobra was rescued from
Yamuna Bank Depot on Tuesday. The team from
Wildlife SOS found the snake blocking the gate of an office complex. After receiving a distress call, the team rushed to the spot and rescued the enormous reptile, which will be kept under observation until deemed fit for release.
"The black snake was coiled in front of the gate to the ETU office building complex.
The sheer size of the snake caused panic and people began shouting and trying to scare the snake away. The terrified reptile reared its head and flared its hood, leaving no doubt among the bystanders that it was a cobra, a little more than 6.5-feet in length. The snake attempted to get away from the crowd but found its escape route blocked. Cornered, it retreated into a small gap in the wall near the gate," said a rescue worker.
Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, "Common cobras are venomous snakes but will not attack a human being without provocation. Sometimes, the size of a reptile, coupled with the general misunderstanding of snakes, causes people to unnecessarily panic on spotting a snake."
