Duda: Poland supports French proposal to restrict UN SC permanent members' right to veto

Poland supports French proposal to adopt a code of procedure for refraining from a veto in the event when UN is confronted with gravest crimes in the sense of international law including the crime of genocide.

President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda stated at the general debate of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, Censor.NET reports citing UN official website.

"Poland supports French proposal to adopt a code of procedure for refraining from a veto in the event when we are confronted with gravest crimes in the sense of international law including the crime of genocide," he said.

Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has vetoed all Council's resolutions on Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.

In addition, Russia used its right to veto in July 2015 having blocked the initiative to create a tribunal on downing of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing that crashed in eastern Ukraine in July 2014.
