DEHRADUN: After the arrest of a fourth accused in the gang rape case of a Siliguri woman in Mussoorie, police have intensified raids to nab the two remaining accused in the case who are still on the run. Police teams have also been rushed to Tehri and Pauri districts besides carrying out searches at various locations in and around Mussoorie.
“We have got important leads on the two who are at large and hope to arrest them soon.
Our teams are working on the case,” SP city Ajay Singh told TOI.
The two on the run have been identified as Anil Kumar, an employee of a hotel in Mussoorie, and Mahaveer Rawat, a gardener in the horticulture department.
The fourth accused, Arjun Singh Panwar, was arrested on Sunday evening from a hotel near the guest house where the crime was reported. Panwar is also caretaker of the guest house. On the day of crime, the house owner had to go somewhere and he had handed over the keys to Panwar.
On the information provided by the survivor, who is from Bagdogra area of Siliguri, Dehradun police arrested two home guards, Jaypal Singh Panwar (40) and Roshan Singh (34) late on Friday night. Both are from Tehri district and presently posted at Mussoorie. The car used in the crime and the survivor's mobile phone were also recovered from them. The two were produced in court, which sent them to 14 days judicial custody.
The third person who was arrested on Saturday afternoon was identified as Revat Singh Panwar. According to police, Panwar is an employee of Mussoorie Nagar Palika and is posted at a check barrier in Mussoorie.
The 26-year-old woman hailing from Siliguri, who had come to Mussoorie to meet a friend, was allegedly gang-raped by six persons in a private guest house in Suakoli area on Thursday night. After raping her, the accused took away Rs 20,000 she had in her bag and also carried away her mobile phone. Following the victim’s complaint, a case under section 376 (D), related to gang-rape and 392 (robbery) has been registered at Mussoorie police station against the six accused.
