The word ‘Tarantismo’ means an uncontrollable desire to dance, and the Tarantismo Creative Dance Company portrays just that. Arati Punwani Sunawala and Deepthi Shetty started the dance company in the year 2006 and used this medium to express ideas, tell stories and raise questions, all just by swaying to the music.

The dynamic group of dancers is trained in styles like kathak, bharathanatyam, belly dancing, Bollywood and Indian contemporary dance. But the two major disciplines taught and performed at the dance company are contemporary dance and belly dance. Out of the 15 to 18 member team, ten of them are involved in teaching dance to children within the age of three and adults even older than 40.

“Every student is considered as a part of the extended TCDC family. There is a certain warmth in the interactions that you have with the instructors. And to top it all they shine in their business as well. They are unquestionably the best bunch of eclectic dancers and instructors you would find around,” says Posco John, a contemporary intensive batch student.

Currently, Tarantismo conducts classes in Jayanagar, Indiranagar, Sahakarnagar, Sadashivanagar and Koramangala. Other than the community classes, they also take private sessions, corporate shows, workshops for corporates, conduct video tutorials, and ‘sangeets’.

Apart from the regular classes they have, they also have an annual programme known as the ‘Circle of Dance’.  It is an informal gathering where students of all age groups get together and display a fun choreography that they learnt during the three-month course. The core team of Tarantismo also puts up a few pieces for their students. It is a fun event where people let loose and dance for the love of it.

Debosmita Chaudhuri, a belly dancing student, says, “Circle Of Dance last year was the first time I met the entire Tarantismo family. And boy, was that something! The vigour and the love were contagious, and you couldn't help but sway along with all the other dancers on every song! The fun of a performance, without the pressure of one! Cannot wait to be a part of this year's COD!”

Tarantismo is very passionate about dancing and want to continue spreading joy as far as possible while continuing to create job opportunities. They want to make dance a fun, entertaining and a daily aspect of ones live through their various dance classes and annual programs.

This year, the ‘Circle of Dance’ will be held on December 6. For more information, log on to www.tarantismo.in
