Dorothy Butler (GalleyCat)Dorothy Butler, a New Zealand-based author and bookseller, has died. She was 90 years old.

Throughout her writing career, Butler published several children’s books, a number of nonfiction books, and an autobiography. She earned the title of Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1993.

Here’s more from Stuff.co.nz: “Extremely well-respected by her peers, Butler’s bookstore in Ponsonby became an institution for Aucklanders. Although the store was bought by new owners in 1999, it continues to bear her name. Butler was a passionate advocate for children’s literacy and the importance of books in young people’s lives.” (via The Horn Book)
