Niki Lauda criticises Japanese Grand Prix television coverage

Niki Lauda will seek answers from Formula One's commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone over Mercedes' apparent lack of television coverage during Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton, who led every lap en route to claiming his eighth victory of the season, barely featured in FOM's (Formula One Management) world feed.

The coverage here in Suzuka instead appeared to focus on the battle for the menial places.

"I want to see Bernie next week and ask him what is the reason because if you ask a question you get an answer," Mercedes non-executive chairman Lauda said.

"At the moment I can't say much but it was funny today, even the pit stop of Lewis - the leader - we only saw him driving out. We didn't even see how he changed his wheels. It was interesting.

"It was funny to be honest, because I was watching TV all day long, and I saw Saubers and a lot of Honda cars and all this but I don't know why. Somebody must do the filming here and I have to ask what's wrong with him."

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff added: "I wasn't sure during the race where we were, I needed to look on the timing screens as I couldn't see cars on track."

It was claimed the team's lack of exposure in Japan, where they sealed their eighth one-two finish of the season after Nico Rosberg followed Hamilton home, could have been due to their decision not to supply Red Bull with engines next term.

Lauda added: "I think you cannot go in that direction because I spoke to Bernie in a couple of occasions about this engine deal, and it was very clear that (Red Bull owner Dietrich) Mateschitz never really approached us for the reasons he never really liked Mercedes from the past - nothing to do with today.

"So Bernie is not upset about us about the engine, that's for sure."
