Muslims celebrated Eid-ul-Adha with zeal and fervour here on Friday.
Since early morning, residents had started gathering at the city mosques and then offered Eid prayers. Soon after the prayers, the residents greeted each other and exchanged gifts as well.
Moulana Ajmal, chief cleric of Sector 20 Jamia Masjid, told The Chandigarh Newsline special prayers were conducted for peace in the country. “On the occasion, we prayed for peace in our country. We prayed for everyone, so that we can stay happy and live together peacefully,” he said.

Ajmal said that Eid prayers were also offered in 15 mosques in the city.
“Many of our brothers from different religions visited our houses. We celebrated it together,” said Ajmal.
Soon after the Eid prayers, the Muslims also sacrificed goats, according to the Islamic rituals.
The goat meat, which is considered auspicious among the Muslim community, was then distributed among relatives, and also among the poor.
The festival was also celebrated in Mohali and Panchkula, where people wearing new clothes and skull caps were
seen moving towards mosques early in the morning to offer prayers.
