After director Rahul Rawail, who was part of the Oscar jury, made allegations of manipulation, tweaking votes and corruption against chairman Amol Palekar, another jury member has voiced his difference. The attack comes from actor-director Arindam Sil who was also a part of the jury. READ: Exclusive: Amol Palekar hated 'Court', says Rahul Rawail Speaking to TOI from Kolkata, Sil said, “I didn’t like certain malpractices. We had various stages of voting.
During one interim voting session, the results of films out of four films (
Margarita With a Straw,Kaaka Muttai,
Masaan and
Court) were manipulated. On recounting the interim votes, we found the results that Amolji was giving out were wrong. He was deliberately trying to oust
Court. Results of three out of four films going wrong can’t be a human error,” Sil alleged. Once controversy broke out, sources claim that director
Kamaleswar Mukherjee and Sil spoke in favour of
Court. “Yes, that’s when the situation started turning and the votes started coming in differently. I had nothing against
Kaaka Muttai. We took one and a half days to deliberate over whether
Court or
Kaaka Muttai should make the final cut. It was a difficult choice.
Court made the cut because we all agreed that it was the better case put forward,” Sil said.
Why didn’t Sil resign if he had had noticed such problems? “Had I resigned,
Court would have lost out. Like many others, I stayed in there and fought it out. But not everything was unfair. I must add that because of this experience, I came across great personalities including Abbas Tyrewala, Rahul Rawail, Dr
Biju Damodaran and
Ravi Jadhab.”
