Where have all the potholes on ORR gone?

BDA in action mode, fills potholes to give minister a jerk-free ride

District Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Thursday had a jerk-free ride on the Outer Ring Road on the inaugural day of his two-week long inspection of City roads.

The minister had charted out a programme to inspect City roads from Sept 24 to Oct 6 following the death of a techie Stuti Pandey last Thursday.

The announcement by the minister worked wonders as Bangalore Development Authority got into the action mode to fill up the potholes all along 23-km stretch between Central Silk Board Junction and Hebbal.

The only pothole the minister could spot was at Iblur near Bellandur. The BBMP was quick to issue a statement blaming the BWSSB for its leaked pipeline that led to the crater-like pothole at Iblur.

While the ORR presented a sunny look, the service roads adjacent to the Ring Road were in a deplorable condition.

The minister said, “I have instructed the BDA officials to asphalt the service roads and hand them over to the Palike at the earliest.” Reddy added that he will inspect the arterial roads in October first week.

BDA Commissioner T Sham Bhatt, who accompanied the minister during the inspection, said,  “The BDA had built 26 flyovers in the City. Of which, six flyovers have already been handed over to the BBMP and the rest will be transferred to the Palike in two weeks. We are constructing six more flyovers and once they are completed, the BDA will hand them over to the Palike," he added.

Airport Road to be widened
The BDA commissioner said that the Airport Road will be widened by 15 metres at a total cost of Rs 88 crore and that the project duration is 18 months.

Mayor BN Manjunatha Reddy, Deputy Mayor Hemalatha Gopalaiah and a host of BBMP and the BDA officials were present during the inspection.
