TNT has cancelled “Proof” after one season, putting an end to the supernatural drama series exec produced by Kyra Sedgwick and created by Rob Bragin.

The 10-episode series debuted in June and starred Jennifer Beals as Carolyn Tyler, a doctor who researches reincarnation and near-death experiences and who also happens to be coping with the death of her teenage son. Other roles include David Sutcliffe as her ex-husband and Matthew Modine as the terminally ill billionaire funding her research.

Joe Morton, Callum Blue, Edi Gathegi, Annie Thurman and Caroline Rose Kaplan also starred. In addition to Sedgwick, exec producers were also Alex Graves, Jill Littman, Tom Jacobson and Bragin.

Despite airing behind TNT staple “Rizzoli and Isles,” it averaged a mere 0.31 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.1 million viewers overall in same-night viewing, rising to a 0.53 and about 3.3 million in Nielsen’s “live plus-3” estimates.

It was also not a hit with critics, as Variety TV columnist Brian Lowry said it explored the mystery of death in “the most uninspired and banal of ways.”

“Filled with cliches, the TNT series benefits from the casting of Jennifer Beals in the central role, but handcuffs her with a drab character and dead-end (pardon the pun) concept, which, as executed, demonstrates what would happen if a medical procedural and ‘The X-Files’ had a baby,” he wrote in his review.
