Sudeep will play Muthappa Rai on screen

Sudeep will play Muthappa Rai on screen
Looks like Ram Gopal Varma is bewitched by the socio-political developments in Karnataka. After wrapping up Killing Veerappan, a film on the dreaded sandalwood smuggler, the maverick filmmaker will make a film on Muthappa Rai, the former don-turned-activist based in Bengaluru. It's reliably learnt that the film will start rolling in three months and Muthappa Rai has had several meetings with Ram Gopal Varma to discuss the project.
Actor Sudeep has been roped in to play Rai on the big screen. Tentatively titled Rai, the flick will be made in four languages -Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Confirming the development, Rai told Mirror, “Ram Gopal Varma is a “real director“ and I really enjoy his movies. He is very realistic and his movies are mostly based on real incidents. So, he met me re cently as he wanted to make a movie on me. Over lunch, we discussed how to go about the film. I have discussed a few things and he will come back to me as I have to answer all of his questions. RGV has a style and he first collects all the information and I think he will come to me with lots of question for which I will answer.“
Buzz is that the film will encapsulate the whole life of Rai -from his underworld days to the Dubai connection and the days of activism in later life. Rai confirmed that he is not producing the movie and he will have no role in the film. Sources also say RGV has already narrated the thread to to Sudeep and he has already given the nod for the movie. Soon after the completion of Killing Veerappan, RGV will take up the project.
There have been many attempts in the past to make biopics on Rai, but the don-turned-activist has not apparently been keen on the idea. When asked why, Rai smiled and said, “I didn't let anyone make it. I have not agreed to anyone sharing my personal information and make a movie.
“But I strongly feel now that only two directors can do justice to the movie. One is Rajamouli [Baahubali director] and the other is Ram Gopal Varma. They are capable of delivering.RGV has already met me and the film should start rolling soon.“
“The flick will be produced by citybased producer N Kumar. Said N Kumar, “The original idea to make a movie on Rai was Ram Gopal Varma's.Long time back, he suggested this to Sudeep. Sudeep revealed this when I approached him for the same. RGV and Sudeep had already had discussions about the film even before I joined the team.
“They will reveal the details in a week after RGV completes work on K i l l i n g Ve e r a p p a n , s t a r r i n g Shivrajkumar. I am not the kind of producer who will interfere in everything.My job is to fund the film. I have complete faith in the director and my hero.

“The project should begin by December. There is no doubt that this will be one of the biggest ventures in Kannada cinema.
“As of now, the plan is to make the film in four languages; Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.“
RAI IS THE FATHER OF ALL GODFATHERS: RGV
What RGV said on the project through a series of tweets: “Bangalore underworld has a far more viscous quality which explains its pan India effect and its links to Mumbai and Dubai-based Underworld Finally, I always thought Godfather was a fictional character but after Meeting Mutthappa Rai realised he is real and he is father of all Godfathers. Muthappa Rai I think is the Bahubali of the Underworld. The research I gathered on Bangalore underworld in general and Mutthappa Rai in particular came from multiple sources and not from Rai. What I heard about Mutthappa Rai from others including cops and his enemies is far far more than what I actually heard from Mr.Rai himself. After all my understanding what I had of the underworld I realised today that the D-Company is much less in comparison to B-Company.“
