A student has filed a non-cognizable offence (NC) complaint against the BM Ruia Girls College for being denied a leaving certificate (LC). Kinjal Velari (18) claimed that she went to cancel her Ruia college admission as soon as she realised that it was affiliated to the SNDT University and not the University of Mumbai, but she was not allowed. Velari said she gave her HSC exam from a south Mumbai college but couldn't secure admission there as she was a private student. She then approached the BM Ruia Girls College through someone else, where she got admission on the last day of process in August.

Her father Ramesh Velari said, "After taking admission, Kinjal realised that the college was not affiliated to MU. Since she completed her studies from the state board, she was not willing to pursue a degree from the SNDT University. She secured admission on Saturday and we went to cancel it two days later. But the college authorities kept asking us to come some other day. They also asked us to meet the principal, but she was never available. Finally, we had to file a complaint with the Gamdevi police."

Principal Nini Gulla was not available for comments. Supervisor Sandip Kadam, however, said, "First of all, we gave admission to Velari on the last day. Then she came back after five or six days to cancel it. Since our principal is not keeping well, we are not able to give Velari the LC. She can collect it after the second semester."

The duty officer at the Gamdevi police station confirmed the development.
