In a tragedy, three members of a family from Bengaluru and one of their relatives were killed when the SUV they were travelling in was rammed by a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus in the Gangavaram mandal headquarters, 45 km from here, on Tuesday morning.

The family, along with their relatives, were on their way to Tirumala to witness the Srivari Brahmotsavams. Police arrested the bus driver and seized the bus.

According to the Gangavaram Police, the deceased have been identified as Bhaskar (56), a businessman from Prakash Nagar area in the Rajaji Nagar police station limits of Bengaluru, his wife Janakamma (50) and son Bhaskar (27) and a relative, Murugan (21).

When the SUV with eight people on board reached a serpentine bend on the Palamaner-Punganur road, a speeding KSRTC bus rammed it head-on.

Bhaskar, his wife, son and Murugan, who received severe injuries, were rushed to Palamaner area hospital, where they died while undergoing treatment.

The rest on board (four) were shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru after being administered first-aid at the area hospital in Palamaner. Gangavaram Sub-Inspector said that the bus driver’s negligence and high speed of vehicle led to the accident. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to area hospital for autopsy.
