"Pathemari", the much awaited Mammootty and Jewel Mary starrer, is set to be released on Friday, 9 October.

The film, written and directed by Salim Ahamed, narrates the story of Malayali immigrants in West Asia. Mammootty plays the role of Pallickal Narayanan and Jewel Mary plays his wife, Nalini.

Here we are listing five reasons as to why "Pathemari" is a must-watch:

A Salim Ahamed Film

Filmmaker Salim Ahamed is best known for "Adaminte Makan Abu", which had received four National Awards: Best Film, Best Actor, Best Cinematography and Best Background Score.

Mammootty had previously teamed up with director Salim in "Kunjananthante Kada", which had also received positive reviews.

Mammootty-Jewel Mary combo

The combination of Mammootty and Jewel Mary in the lead roles had already been tried and tested in the satirical Onam release, "Utopiayile Rajavu".

In fact, Mammootty had suggested that Jewel Mary be cast in "Utopiayile Rajavu" as he was impressed with her performance in "Pathemari".

Kerala-Gulf Connection

The over-25-lakh-strong Malayali diaspora in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are waiting for the release of "Pathemari", as the film talks about issues that the migrants face.

The plot of the film revolves around Pallickal Narayanan (Mammootty), who migrated to the Middle-East in the early 1980s, when the Kerala Gulf Boom was at its peak.

Star Cast

Another important aspect of "Pathemari" is the star cast. Apart from Mammooty and Jewel Mary, the film also features Sreenivasan, Balachandra Menon, Joy Mathew, Salim Kumar and Yavanika Gopalakrishnan in pivotal roles.

Actor Siddique's son Shaheen will be seen playing Narayanan and Nalini's son. Veteran actor Siddique, who was critically acclaimed for his performance in Mohanlal starrer "Loham", will also play a pivotal role in the upcoming movie.

Technical Aspects:

One can expect "Pathemari" to garner a few National and State awards for its state-of-the-art technical aspects as most of the crew are National Award winners.

The sound design is handled by Resul Pookutty, who had won an Oscar for "Slumdog Millionaire". And, the cinematography is done by Madhu Ambat, who had received National Award for Best Cinematography in Salim Ahamed's debut directorial "Adaminte Makan Abu".

"Pathemari" has three songs, which have been composed by National Award-winning music director Bijibal.
