Enough is enough: Pervez Rasool reacts to J&K cricket’s mess

Just like any other player, Pervez Rasool is confused too amid the chaos.

How has been your training after returning home at the end of the India A series last month?

I wanted to work hard and prepare myself for the long season ahead. But there was a surprise in store for me when I reached home. The two factions of J&K cricket were involved in a court battle. Players were troubled and there seemed no solution in sight. Forgot senior players, even the under-14 boys didn’t know what to do. We have just 10 days left for our Ranji Trophy games and we don’t know which group we should join or which camp we had to attend. We don’t even know if we will be playing at home or not.

So this wasn’t the ideal start to the season …

Right now I don’t feel like playing with those who are in contention for Ranji team as the vibe isn’t nice. Everywhere I go, there is talk of uncertainty. I practiced at my home, I hardly visited Srinagar. I was captain for J&K team and I would start pre-season by watching some players, be it new or old, but now I don’t know whether I will be leading the side or not.

So you and your team are focusing more on the courts, and not on training?

Yes, as players we don’t want that to happen. There is confusion over which group BCCI is supporting. How can you expect us to concentrate? For the last few seasons, this team has changed the image of J&K cricket but now these court cases have spread a negativity. No camp, no practice games, no probables list till date. Hadd hai yaar! (Enough is enough!)

What impact will this have on the performance of the team?

To be honest, I don’t think we are mentally prepared to play. Yes, if we manage to win a few games at the start of the season, we can gain momentum. We shall try our best. I have told the administrators don’t expect any miracle.
