"It was dark and there were no warning signs. He would have been walking along the road in an inebriated condition when he suddenly fell into the pit on this under construction road between Udlana and Hata village and got unconscious. The pit was uncovered for some time now. Traffic was also restricted on the stretch as the pit occupied more than half of the road making vehicular traffic and walking risky," said an investigating officer.
Heavy machines were being used for the road construction work. "Workers must not have noticed him there while filling the road with premix and bitumen, which subsequently led to his death," said the officer. There was a tension in the area after this incident. Angry villagers cleared the road block only after senior police officials intervened and assured action against the construction company.
Body was exhumed and sent for autopsy. A case has been registered for investigation.
