NMMA begins assessment of 2014/15 entries

In presenting the entries to the POA, the Chairman, BOT, NMMA, Engineer Vincent Maduka was optimistic like ever before that the POA will do a good job. He also gave the POA two months to complete the assessment.

Giving a breakdown of the entries received after the call of entries was closed, Maduka said that a total of 1043 entries were received from 726 entrants. Providing a breakdown of the entries, he disclosed that 611 entrants submitted 888 entries from the print media; 68 entries came in from 50 entrants in the radio categories and 87 entries were received from 65 entrants in the television categories.

Speaking at a press conference to the inauguration ceremony of the NMMA 2015 Panel of Assessors, (POA) Maduka stated that the organisation is pleased to note the positive impact of the NMMA on the media practice in Nigeria as well as the appreciation of the role of the industry in national development.

“This year, the POA, led by the Chairman, Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye will once again use their wealth of experience along with the guidelines of NMMA, to thoroughly assess the entries submitted to them diligently, for selection of outstanding award nominees and winners. The POA, which is divided into five groups covering the print, radio and television categories has a period of two months for assessment of entries after which their final report would be submitted to the Board for consideration and final approval,” Maduka said.

He stated that the NMMA has grown from only 10 award categories declared 23 years ago to 51 award categories approved for 2014/2015, noting that most of its award categories endowed by reputable organizations and credible individuals from all parts of Nigeria, which reflects the level of goodwill and public endorsement the NMMA enjoys nationwide.

“Each of the winners of the NMMA 2015 will receive N100,000 cash prize with the unique NMMA gong-man. These will be presented at the Grand award presentation ceremony to be held in the last quarter of 2015 at a soon to be announced location. The choices in view are Abuja and Lagos for 2015. More facts on the hosting will be provided at a later date before the conclusion of the assessment exercise.”

Receiving the entries on behalf of the POA Chairman, Mr. Dele Adetiba, promised that the assessors would do its job with due diligent.

Also a statement by the Chairman of POA, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye made available to the media stated that at the end of the assessment, a comprehensive report with outstanding winners and commendable nominees selected for the 2015 Grand Award ceremony would be presented to the BOT for due consideration and if found worthy to be approved.
