Residents of housing society allege fraud by builders, SSP marks inquiry to Zirakpur police

Vineet Kashyap, the complainant, said that he bought a flat in the society in 2012 by paying Rs 6 lakh as advance money and the rest by taking a loan from Axis Bank. The builders issued an allotment letter to him in July 2012 and he along with his family had been staying in the flat since then.

According to Kashyap, he came to know that Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) published a notice in some newspapers that builder Sindhuri Lal Mittal had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from the bank, which he did not repay. Kashyap, in his complaint, alleged that the land which was mentioned in the notice was the same where their flats were constructed in the society.

Kashyap also alleged that they came to know that the builders had fraudulently taken a loan of Rs 23 crore from different banks and now the families living in the society would have to suffer if it was not repaid.

Ravi Barua, another resident of the society, said he bought a flat in the society in 2013 and on September 9, he came to know OBC bank had pasted notices on their flats for the recovery of the amount from the builder.

Barua said that due to the non-payment of the loan by the builders, they were not able to register their flats in their names.

Vineet Chaudhary, another resident of the society, said that he bought a flat in 2012. The builders constructed a total of 204 flats but after the bank notices, 54 families would be in trouble as their flats were on the land which was used by the builders to take the bank loan.

The builders said they would soon repay the loan. When contacted, Brij Lal Mittal, who is one of the builders, said that they were going to sell their house in Panchkula. Following this, they would repay the loan and the residents would be able to get their registries done.
