Two armed men drove their motorcycles into a women's shelter home in Mathura around 3 am on Friday and fled with their girlfriends. The women had been forced to live there for the past few months, reported an English daily.

Although not as epic as the movie The Great Escape, the two men also freed 17 other women inmates along with their girlfriends on their way out. A massive hunt later resulted in most of the women being brought back, although the lovers got away. All of this mirrors the Hollywood flick The Great Escape.

Located in Swami Ghat area of Mathura, the shelter home had a total of 19 under trial and orphan inmates. Following the incident, neighbours alerted the police the shelter's home guard, who had been attacked by the two bikers. As soon as the cops became aware of trespass, all city crossings, highways and check-posts were sealed, resulting in 17 inmates being brought back.

Mathura senior superintendent of police Rakesh Singh told the English daily that it wasn't that difficult for the police to round up the women as they knew the women could have only used buses and trains to flee from Mathura.

An FIR was reportedly lodged at Kotwali police station on the complaint of the injured guard under IPC's sections 458 (house-trespass by night), 427 (mischief causing damage), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force on public servant) and 186 (obstructing him from discharging his duties).

According to Kotwali police station inspector Chandrabhan Singh, one of the two still-missing girls a 22-year-old mother of a 2-year-old daughter.

Singh was quoted saying, "She was an orphan when she came to the shelter home in 2012. She was alone at that time. It seems that she gave birth to a baby in the shelter home. She had attempted to run away from the Nari Niketan in February this year too but was later caught by the police in April."

Another missing girl is a minor, who was brought to the shelter home in June after she refused to live with her mother because the latter did not let her marry her boyfriend. "Even after repeated attempts by her parents, she refused to go back home," Singh was quoted in the report.

The district administration is also being probed as to why there was just a single guard at the shelter home. What if a bigger gang had attacked the place with an intent to harm the inmates?
