Thursday (September 10th) Christie's, London: Charity Auction. Running shoes worn by Roger Bannister on May 6th, 1954, when he broke the record for the four-minute mile, sold for £266,500 (about €364,000), more than five times the top estimate (£30,000-£50,000).

Saturday (September 12th) Lockdales Auctioneers, Martlesham, Suffolk: A group of medals awarded to Commander William Turner, captain of the Lusitania, estimated at £25,000- £35,000 (about €34,000), failed to sell.

Monday (September 14th) Morgan O'Driscoll Auctioneers, RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4: Auction of Irish and International Art – 84 per cent of lots sold.  Dalesman and Dewdrop by Basil Blackshaw €16,000 (€15,000-€25,000); Boy with a Flute (drawing) by Paul Henry €15,000 (€15,000-€25,000; Woman With Fagots drawing by Paul Henry, €14,000 (€15,000-€25,000); The Pig Market by Charles Henry Cook €2,400 (€3,000- €5,000).

Tuesday (September 15th) Dix Noonan Webb coins and medals auctioneers, London: An "extremely rare" Irish 17th century Ormonde Money gold pistole coin sold for £78,000 (approximately €107,000).

Tuesday (September 22nd) Oliver Usher Auctioneers, auction on the premises of Smithstown House, Julianstown, Drogheda, Co Meath, at 11.30am on behalf of the representatives of the late Mary Smyth.

A “rare pair of Napoleonic Prisoner-of-War, Dieppe carved bone mirrors with profusely carved foliage and cherubs, crest and coat of arms, each measuring 33 by 23 inches” , estimated at €5,000-€7,000.

Wednesday (September 23rd) Woodward's, Cook Street, Cork. Antiques auction at 6pm to include a private collection of port and wine including "a bottle of Taylor Port 1948, €1,200-€1,500; a 1955 Cockburn port, €400- €500, and a 1981 Château- neuf-du-Pape (€300-€350)".
