Family members of the missing building inspector alleged that he had been tense for the past few days because of work pressure.

Sanjeev Kumar, the building inspector of the Panchkula municipal corporation, went missing two days ago after he visited the high court. He has been working with the corporation for the past three years and is one of the four building inspectors of the civic body. A resident of Kurukshetra, Sanjeev has been living in Kaimbwala with his wife, Vineeta, and one-year-old daughter.

“Our daughter’s birthday was on September 14 and we had gone to Elante to celebrate it and returned around 11pm. He told me that he was worried as he has to visit the court the next day for vetting of an affidavit. He went there on Monday as well, but waited outside the AG’s office for several hours,” said Sanjeev’s wife Vineeta.

On the day he went missing, Sanjeev had left home at 10 pm and went to drop his cousin sister to PGI and told her to call his wife Vineeta before leaving.

“Minutes before he was leaving, I received a call from his colleague Vivek Beniwal. He told me that the officials are preparing his suspension orders and I immediately told him about it. He was visibly upset, but left in a hurry. Since the past few days, he would return home late and would receive calls from office about some or the other file. But, it was this legal case that occupied his mind for most of the time,” said Vineeta.

However, MC commissioner Jagdeep Dhanda denied any such official decision. “No such issue regarding his work or his suspension was discussed. We have also told this to his family members. He never came to me about any problem of work pressure. He was our employee and we have submitted the complaint to the police about the incident.”

Dhanda said the file containing original documents pertaining to the legal case against Outdoor Communications Private Limited was with him at that time. The case pertains to recovery of over Rs 1.25 crore from the Delhi-based company, which was awarded a five-year contract of advertisements on uni-poles and bus-queue shelters in the town. Since the company did not pay the license fee of over nine months on time, the MC served them a notice and filed a case in the Panjab and Haryana High Court.
