Weekly Round Up of Logistics Appointments Starts with Freight Forwarders Boss

WORLDWIDE – The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) has announced the results of its recent elections for the Presidency and the new Extended Board. The newly elected President has been named as Huxiang Zhao, who is Chairman of Sinotrans & CSC, Chairman of DHL-Sinotrans and President of CIFA, the FIATA Association Member in China. Zhao succeeds Francesco Parisi, of Italy, who will now serve as Immediate Past President for the next two years.

Jean-Claude Delen, Belgium has been re-elected as Treasurer and Robert Voltmann, US, will replace Heiner Rogge, Germany in the position of Secretary General. The Presidency is completed by Babar Badat, Pakistan, renewing his positions as Senior Vice President, and by Ivan Petrov of Bulgaria and Basil Pietersen, South Africa, who have been elected as Senior Vice President for the first time.

The General Meeting delegates also elected the following Vice-Presidents: Marc Bibeau, Cananda; Turgut Erkeskin, Turkey; Paul Golland, Australia; Krishnan Chelliah, Malaysia; Robert Kingsford Kutin, Ghana; Steve Parker, UK; David Phillips, UAE; Jens Roemer, Belgium; Antonella Straulino, Italy; Keshav Tanna, India; Jeffrey Wannamaker, US; Peter Yang, Taiwan; together with the Chairpersons of the Institutes, the Advisory Bodies and the FIATA Regional Bodies, these individuals compose the Extended Board of FIATA.

The only newcomer in the group of Board members is Jorge Heinermann of Uruguay, who takes the helm of the RAMNS, where he succeeds Rodolfo Sagel of Argentina. The new FIATA Logistics Academy is chaired by Issa Baluch of France as well as The Congress Committee is now chaired by Stanley Lim, who has been nominated Honorary Member of the Board of FIATA as well Heiner Rogge.

UK – DP World London Gateway has appointed Oliver Treneman as its new Park Development Director, succeeding Graeme Clarke who has announced his retirement. In his previous role, Oliver was Managing Director and Country Head for The Redwood Group, a specialised logistics real estate investment firm, in China and Japan.

UK – Logistics and security specialists Wilson James have appointed Peter Jacobs as Managing Director  Construction and Integrated Solutions.

UK – The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK) has elected four new board members, each serving a four year term. Professor Richard Wilding FCILT, Full Professor and Chair in Supply Chain Strategy, Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Cranfield School of Management; Margaret Everson MBE FCILT, Director for Wales, Bus Users Cymru; Jane Green FCILT, a trustee and main board director for CILT and is currently working with Women in Logistics UK to develop a calendar of events; and Helen Gallimore FCILT, currently working on a project that will see logistics form part of the National Curriculum geography syllabus.

SWEDEN – Volvo Group Executive Team member Torbjörn Holmström has announced his intention to step down from his position as Volvo Group Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President Group Trucks Technology. Holmström will continue in his current position until such time as a successor has been appointed to lead the Volvo Group´s global truck technology and product development organisation. Following this, he will remain at the Volvo Group as senior advisor research and development.

FINLAND – Roger Holm has been appointed President of Marine Solutions, Executive Vice President and Member of the Management Board of the Wärtsilä Corporation, effective 1 November 2015. He will report to the then President and CEO Jaakko Eskola, whose appointment is effective the same date.

GERMANY – Cargolux has appointed Christian Thiele as its new Country Manager – Germany, effective in October. Succeeding Tony McNichol, who has become a Regional Director, Thiele joins Cargolux from Emirates SkyCargo, where he held the position of Cargo Business Development Manager, Germany. 

GERMANY – US – Since September 1, Christian Baur has assumed the sole leadership of Swisslog’s Warehouse & Distribution Soultions division, in addition to his responsibilities as COO. Swisslog has also announced that former Managing Director of Swisslog Germany, Volker Jungbluth, has assumed leadership of the company’s new Strategic Research & Development unit.

Nicholas Tripptree, transitions to the Americas office from Asia-Pacific region where he was previously responsible for the customer service group.

US – CT Strategies has announced the addition of four Senior Advisors, accomplished in the fields of supply chain security and border management. Former US Customs and Border Protection officials, Kathleen Conway, Noel Sanchez, and Joe Uribe all join Charles Morton, former Vice President and Area Security Manager for North America at Panalpina, at their new roles with CT Strategies.

US – The Hub Group has announced that Donald Maltby has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately, after Mark Yaeger resigned at the beginning of August.

SINGAPORE – DHL Global Forwarding has appointed Charles Kaufmann as Chief Executive Officer for North Asia, as he continues to head Value Added Services for Asia Pacific. In his new role, Kaufmann will be responsible for North Asia market operations which cover Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea and Taiwan. He will continue to report directly to Kelvin Leung, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific.
