An Italian student was hospitalised after she was forced to hold her pee for an excruciating 40 minutes after an exam.

Examiners made candidates for the University of Palermo’s entrance test leave the room one-by-one in a bid to stop cheating.

The 19-year-old was desperate to use the bathroom.

She pleaded with invigilators, but was told to sit tight until it was her turn to go - or face having her results annulled.

The teen, who has not been named, was eventually allowed to leave after 40 agonising minutes, reports The Local.

“The long wait caused serious consequences,” said her older sister Floriana, who rushed her sibling - who suffers from a urinary tract problem - to hospital.

“As soon as she got to the bathroom she was bleeding due to a haemorrhagic cystitis,” she told Today.it.

“In addition to the physical damage caused by her holding her wee longer than she should have, there was moral damage too,” she added.

The teen was treated and discharged.

But she then went back to collect her iPhone, which had been handed to examiners before the exam, only find it had vanished.

The girl’s family is now demanding compensation from the university’s examination board, which has launched an investigation into the incident.
