David Cameron welcomes cricket legends to 10 Downing Street ahead of charity match

MS Dhoni will be part of the Heroes team that will be managed by David Gower and Michael Holding

London: Team India’s ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag among other cricket legends will descend at The Oval, here on Thursday for a T20 charity match, the proceeds of which will go for the Help for Heroes Foundation in the United Kingdom. The foundation takes care of injured British soldiers.

Dhoni will be part of the Heroes team that will be managed by David Gower and Michael Holding and led by former England captain and currently England cricket’s director Andrew Strauss. Sehwag, Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi and South African ace Herschelle Gibbs will also be part of the star-studded line-up.

"I am delighted to be joining so many cricketing superstars supporting such a worthy cause. I've always enjoyed playing cricket in England and I would urge all sports fans to support Help for Heroes and watch some truly world class performers in action," Dhoni told SKY Sports.

According to highly placed sources, ‘Captain Cool’ is expected to be named India's ODI and T20 captain on Sunday when the national selectors pick the squads in Bengaluru for the upcoming two-month long series against South Africa in the subcontinent.

However, there have been reports in the media that Team India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli could be made in-charge of the limited overs team, keeping in mind the ICC World T20 in India next year.

On Wednesday, the legends of the gentleman’s game were hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street. Cameron will be present at The Oval during the match that will first start with a T20 match between the Help for Heroes Cricket Club and the England Physical Disability Team.

New Zealand’s lethal batsman Brendon McCullum will lead the Rest of the World team that will be managed by Sunil Gavaskar and Gary Kirsten. Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, Mahela Jayawardene and Brian Lara will be part of McCullum's team. Afghanistan's Shapoor Zadran, who was quite a rage during the ICC Cricket World Cup earlier this year is also in the Rest of the World team.
