Disney is reportedly developing a new "Mary Poppins" musical with Rob Marshall ("Into the Woods," "Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides") in the director's chair. Variety writes that the reboot will take place in London 20 years after the first film.
The updated version will be based on the book series by P.L. Travers. The original was based on the original book, published in 1934.
Travers had a contentious relationship with Walt Disney over the adaptation of the original - a relationship documented in the film "Saving Mr. Banks."
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the songwriting team behind "Hairspray" and "Smash," will handle the songwriting duties, while David Magee ("Life of Pie") will handle the script.
