Fish poisoned to death
Fishes were poisoned to death by criminals in ponds in Nandigram upazila of Bogra and Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira early yesterday and on Tuesday night.
Our Bogra correspondent reported that fishes in a pond were allegedly poisoned by a gang as a sequel to previous enmity at Gopalpur Apuchagari village of Thalta Majbari union under Nandigram upazila in Bogra early yesterday.
Police said local fish cultivators Anisur Rahman and Raju Ahmed leased a pond of Asit Kumar of the village for Tk 5 lakh for five years. The two have been cultivating different kinds of hybrid fishes in the pond.
Digendranath, Rothindranath and Supad Kumar, neighbours of Asit Kumar, had a dispute with Anisur and Raju over leasing of the pond. They might have put poison in the pond to kill the fishes worth Tk 1.5 lakh, added the police.
Contacted, Golok Kumar, sub-inspector (SI) of Nandigram Police Station, said Anisur informed him about the matter.
Anisur was advised to lodge a case with the police station, the SI added.
