Hats off to Mr Modi

Letter September 13, 2015
The recurrent Indian violations at LoC is a clear indication of India’s warmongering nature

LAHORE: What greater gift could your enemy give to you than shedding the facade of courteous behaviour that is manipulatively employed by it to conceal its true colours and hawkish intentions? Something like this has been happening with regard to the current Indian government as it has, once again, manifested its anti-Pakistani sentiments that reign large in its foreign policy towards Pakistan. The recurrent Indian violations at the Line of Control, and the consequent deaths of our fellow citizens as a result of blatant Indian firing, is a clear indication of India’s warmongering nature. To add fuel to fire, the statements given by Indian ministers and the country’s chief of army staff are indicative of that country’s aggressive attitude and its non-seriousness in resolving its differences with Pakistan. India may be ready for “a short and swift war” with its enemies but so is Pakistan. Not only do we have the potential to face such a war, but we also have the might to assert our rights in times of crises.

It is ironic how every nefarious act of the Indian government backfires. It may employ the anti-Pakistan card to garner support of the people of India and to divert the attention of its citizenry from the basic issues confronted by it, which the government finds itself incapable of addressing. Yet, what it does not realise is that their ill-intended acts do more good to Pakistan than bad. One pertinent example is that of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the students at the University of Dhaka, in which he affirmed the fact that Indians played a vital role in the debacle of East Pakistan in 1971. This reality was not under covers; in fact, this is a known historical fact — yet, the affirmation of this treachery from the sovereign leader of India himself is a clear indication that Indian politics still thrives on anti-Pakistan notions. Moreover, RAW’s involvement in the internal affairs of Pakistan, particularly in fuelling the Balochistan issue and unrest in Karachi, is not hidden.

Recent remarks from Indian leaders have made it evident to Pakistanis that India can never qualify as its friend. Once again, the entire nation stands united in its resolve against the aggressor nation, reiterating the spirit of 1965. We, as a nation, are indebted to Mr Modi for enabling us Pakistanis to resolve our differences and stand united as we can in the face of crisis — something that our political and religious leaders failed to achieve.
