Five of family killed as truck collides with car in Karnal

Five members of a family were killed and seven injured after a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger vehicle in Karnal district of Haryana on Saturday morning.

According to police, the collision happened on the Karnal-Yamunanagar highway. The truck reportedly toppled over the passenger vehicle, a Chevrolet Tavera, trapping the victims. The victims have been identified as Sonam (5), Sameer (7), Savitiri (40), Rani (40) and Ravinder (22) of Darar village in Yamunanagar district. The injured have been admitted at Karnal Civil Hospital.

“Villagers and passersby were the first ones to reach the spot. We reached the spot as soon as we received the information with necessary equipment and vehicles. However, before we could rescue people out of the mangled remains of the Tavera, five had already died and seven others were critically injured. A case has been registered against the truck driver who is absconding,” a police officer said.
