Coonoor: A focus on higher education and research is essential to contribute to the nation, said Dr G. James Pitchai, vice-chancellor, Bharathiar University of Coimbatore.
While delivering the graduation day address at the Providence college for women at Coonoor, Dr Pitchai exhorted and encouraged students to enter into the new era of acquiring knowledge in their respective fields and meeting challenges that arise along the way.
He distributed degree certificates to 258 graduates and 87 post graduates who completed their courses.
Addressing the graduates as Bharathians, he hailed the services of Sisters of St Joseph of Tarbes, which runs the college, for their service and contribution to the cause of education of women in general and in the hills in particular.
