Tension continued to prevail in Charthawal area of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh following molestation of four school girls by some youths of a different community. Furious over the incident, a mob manhandled the police when they visited the place on Monday evening to probe into the incident and arrest the culprits.

Earlier on Monday, a few youths stopped a private bus at Haibatpur Stand under Chapar police station and pulled out four school girls out of it and molested them. An onlooker meanwhile, informed the villagers of Haibatpur about it. Later, a large number of members of both the community gathered there and attacked each other with sharp weapons. Half a dozen people were reported to have had sustained injuries.

Indramani Tripathi, Sub-Divisional Magistrate said an FIR has been filed against 13 (named) and 10 (unnamed) accused for molesting the girls and creating hurdles for the police in carrying out its duty.

"Force has been deployed there to prevent any untoward incident. The police have arrested three people so far", he said. The arrested youths have been identified as Aas Hohammad, Mohammad Kala and Manish Kumar. Those who have been accused to vitiating the atmosphere included former block pramukh Zille Haider, Kanwar Jamshed, Mohammad Israr, Mohammad Mehdi and Mohammad Farman on the one side and Yogendra Singh, Randhir Singh, Jaiveer Singh and Prem Singh on the other side.

Majority of the accused either belong to the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) or owe allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Meanwhile, in another incident, a BSP worker was found dead in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district on Tuesday, police said, with the victim's kin claiming it to be a case of kidnapping and murder over political rivalry.

"Thirty-year-old Aditya Kumar's body bearing injury marks from sharp-edged weapons was recovered from Orhar village under Achalganj police station area in Unnao," police said. Kumar had gone missing yesterday evening. His brother lodged a case later in the night, police said. The brother informed that Kumar was called by one Pappu alias Ranvir Singh Yadav and killed over political rivalry, police said. Meanwhile, about 100 persons staged a protest against the incident before the kotwali, police added.
